The Contribution of Modifiable Risk Factors on Potentially Preventable
Dementia in Independent Longitudinal Cohort Studies

   Proposal Description:
   Research shows that at population level around 35 of dementia incidence is  attributable to nine risk factors, suggesting that eliminating these risk         factors could potentially prevent 35 of all dementia cases. The risk factors     as described in a systematic review and meta-analysis by Livingston et al.       (2017) are: having had less childhood education, and during midlife: hearing     loss, hypertension, obesity, depression, and smoking, and for old age: social     isolation, physical inactivity, diabetes.                                         In this study will be examined:                                                   - What is the total percentage of potentially preventable dementia cases in       independent longitudinal cohort studies that monitored the risk factors           mentioned by Livingston et al.?                                                   - To what extent can dementia and MCI be predicted by each modifiable risk       factor mentioned by Livingston et al. in independent longitudinal cohort         studies?                                                                         Expected outcomes                                                                 I first hypothesize that the percentage of potentially preventable dementia       cases in independent longitudinal cohort studies lies between 35 and 60. This     study will investigate if the percentage of potentially preventable dementia is  similar or different than the result of Livingston et al, who showed that 35     of dementia incidence is attributable to the nine risk factors [3]. In           contrast, Mukadam et al. (2019) state that in low- and middle-income countries   the proportion of preventable dementia cases is even higher (39.5 in China       till 55.8 in Latin America).
